Happy Bonfire Night.

On the 5th November 1605, a group of catholic conspirators were about to launch the “Gunpowder Plot”. They planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament, wiping out the king and parliament at the same time in an attempt to trigger a popular uprising. But the plot was foiled and Guy Fawkes was captured just hours before the fuse was lit

To celebrate the fact that the King had survived, people in London lit bonfires throughout the city. Nowadays people light bonfires and enjoy fireworks to remember an event which could have changed the course of history.
