Develop your teaching skills and gain an advanced and accredited qualification!

We are proud to announce that Nottingham Language Tuition are now offering Trinity College London’s Certificate for Practising Teachers (CertPT) as a new addition to our portfolio of internationally recognised and accredited teacher training courses!

What is the CertPT?

The CertPT is an advanced qualification for practicing language teachers seeking to update, improve and enrich their professional teaching practice. It draws upon established and evidence-based teaching theory, while promoting the acquisition and refinement of the specialist skills needed to develop and utilise effective teaching resources.

This qualification is accredited by Trinity College London and sits at level 6 on the UK’s National Qualifications Framework (the same rating given to the final year of a bachelor’s degree at university). This places it between the Trinity CertTESOL/Cambridge CELTA and DipTESOL/ DELTA qualifications.

Over the course, you will develop your ability to evaluate, adapt, create and reflect on the use of different teaching resources, with a specific focus on their application in your own teaching context. Beside general language teaching, contexts could include, for example, teaching young learners, or teaching English for specific or academic purposes.

Who is this course for?

This course is aimed at in-service language teachers looking for meaningful and practical CPD (Continuing Professional Development), or for those who would like to upskill and update their knowledge as a bridge to starting a level 7 teaching Diploma, such as the Trinity DipTESOL or Cambridge DELTA. All course participants should have either an initial teaching qualification and six months teaching experience; or a minimum of two years’ teaching experience.

This course is suitable and relevant for teachers of all languages; including those who teach English as a Foreign or Second Language, or modern languages such as Spanish, German, … or even for teachers of Esperanto, or ancient languages who wish to bring their dead language back to life! We currently offer the opportunity for either English or Spanish language assignment submissions (Although, please note that all course content will be delivered in English. So, there is an English language requirement that all course participants can communicate at a minimum of CEFR B2 level).

Our course is delivered online, and is accessible to practicing teachers around the world.

Please visit the Trinity College website for more information about this qualification.

The format of Language Tuition Nottingham’s CertPT course:

Language Tuition Nottingham (LTN) has designed this CertPT course primarily as a self-study online course. However, you will also be allocated a tutor from our team of highly experienced teacher trainers to support you throughout the completion of your assignments. You will receive several oral tutorials (either online – via video conferencing software, or in person – at our school in Nottingham) and written tutorials throughout the course.

We provide suggested timetables for completing the course as a part-time or full-time course. However, this is a flexible course of study, and you may complete the course according to your own timetable, taking anywhere between 2 weeks and 6 months to complete your study and assignments.

LTN’s CertPT course consists of two key components:

1. An online component which aims to develop your understanding of several key theories, principles, and approaches that are relevant and applicable to the practice of language teaching.

2. Four written assignments that require you to put this theoretical knowledge into practice and apply this in relation to your own specific teaching context and with your own learners.

The course involves approximately 100 hours of study in total.

.

Course dates and costs:

Please note that you can start and finish the course work on any date according to your needs, but LTN currently submits all students’ completed portfolio of assignments to Trinity college London at set points throughout the year, so if you miss an agreed final submission date, you may need to wait until the next submission date to formally complete your course and receive your certificate.

Price for 2024: £850
